AFRICA - A WORLD PRIORITY

Under the SNC Africa banner, Stuart Notholt Communications Limited (SNC) is developing a portfolio of small-scale initiatives in Africa which bring together first rank business and communications skills with a commitment to developing sustainable projects for selected partners. Projects involve a combination of work with local charities and business start-ups, using local resources and sponsorship where possible as well as pro bono and discounted rates work by UK professionals.

Communications and information provision are central to the SNC Africa initiative, reprsenting as it does both one of the greatest opportunities for Africa as well as one of the major obstacles. Modern internet communications mean that Africa, falling as it does in the same time zones as the major European economies, could be uniquely placed to provide call centre and data input services, for example.

Against this, the general perception in the Western media of Africa is a negative one, not necessarily helped by high-profile comments by politicians after cheap soundbites. For this reason, SNC Africa is working on taking selected grouns of journalists and opinion formers to some of the parts of Africa not necessarily covered by the conventional tourist trade.

The first three programmes under development by SNC Africa are:

<	Providing computer and IT training to teachers and young people in Uganda in conjunction with the work of the Nsumbi Trust.
<	Destination Benin 2007: an exclusive visit to this fascinating country in West Africa, which despite a rich history and vibrant culture, has very few visitors from the UK. The trip will also take in a short visit to Burkina Faso.
<	Providing support to journalistic initiatives aimed at raising the positive profile of the continent.
